Every November, female bull sharks return to a sandy-bottom site 24 meters below the coastal waters off Playa del Carmen. Not because anyone attracts them there — because they always have. From November through March, this aggregation gives certified divers a structured, face-to-face encounter with one of the ocean's most powerful species.
Our PADI-certified instructors have been running this specific dive for over 15 years. They know how these sharks move, how the site behaves in different conditions, and exactly how to brief you so you arrive at depth calm and ready.
The aggregation at this site is made up almost entirely of females — larger, slower-moving, and predictable in behavior. That detail matters when you are standing on a sandy bottom at 24 meters watching them circle.

Knowing the risks is step one. Having a structured system to manage them is what actually gets you to 24 meters and back with the story you came for.
Every bull shark dive Blue Experience runs follows a sequence built from 15 years of repetition on this specific site:
- Pre-dive briefing on shark behavior — instructors explain aggregation patterns, how to read shark body language, and the one rule that matters most: stay low, stay calm, let the sharks set the pace.
- Controlled descent in small groups — groups are kept small by design, reducing water disturbance and keeping every diver within direct visual contact of the guide.
- Stationary positioning on the sandy bottom — at 24 meters, divers kneel or crouch on the seafloor while sharks move through the water column above and around them. Movement is minimal and deliberate.
- Continuous in-water monitoring — PADI-certified instructors are not observing from a distance. They are positioned within the group throughout the dive, reading both diver comfort and shark behavior simultaneously.
- Structured safety stop and ascent — a 3-minute safety stop at 5 meters is standard on every dive, no exceptions, regardless of bottom time.
- Our multilingual instructors deliver every briefing in the diver's own language — English, Spanish, French, or German — because a safety briefing only works if it is fully understood before anyone enters the water.
